While many people are already aware of the general process of in vitro fertilization, you may be interested in what exactly happens behind the scenes of an Ivf lab. As you may expect, IVF lab technicians are focused on successfully completing the job at hand. The main tasks of IVF lab technicians can basically be broken down into three steps. First, technicians must inject the male sperm into the female egg in order to hopefully achieve fertilization. Secondly, IVF lab technicians must allow the embryos to mature. After maturation, it must be determined as to the most viable candidates for transfer. Technicians must then go through the process of Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis, or PGD. Through this process, technicians are able to test for the presence of any genetic or chromosomal abnormalities before the transfer takes place.
